Review: Star Trek

star_trek_poster
“Space, the final frontier.  These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise”.

These words are forever embedded in my mind.  Many childhood hours were spent with Star Trek on the television.  Many evenings were spent watching Kirk schmoozing the ladies and marvelling over Spock’s mind-meld abilities.

Eventually, Star Trek was replaced by Star Trek: Next Generation which was followed by Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and lastly by Star Trek: Voyager.  I never became a “trekkie”, an uber-fan.

Flash forward to today.  A whole new Star Trek movie.  A whole new cast, a whole new story.  No longer would we be stuck with the stacato way in which William Shatner speaks.  No!  Now we have a whole new James T. Kirk.  A new chance to cultivate a whole new generation of trekkies.

Chris Pine makes a much sexier Kirk, don't you think?

Chris Pine (right) makes a much sexier Kirk than William Shatner (left), don't you think?

Chris Pine gives Capt. Kirk a much edgier, sexier, more dangerous Kirk.  And who doesn’t love a bad boy?

Without mentioning any spoilers, this movie covers the beginnings of the crew of the Enterprise.   And, I can say that Producer JJ Abrahms did justice to my childhood memories of the original Star Trek show.

cast2

A new cast, a new story and much more advanced special effects.  It’s a must see movie that even a newbie to trekkie-hood will enjoy.  Best of all, no Star Trek experience needed.

I give this movie two thumbs up.  It’s definitely a must see!

  1. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I’m a fan of Star Trek. No I don’t speak Klingon nor have I ever dressed up as a Star trek person.

I hope to go see it soon. Out of the TV shows, I liked them all, other then DS9, just could not get into that one.

Get thee to the theater then! You will love this!

  2. FUN!! Thanks for the review

Kac, go see it! You’ll love it! And it really has to be experienced on the big screen!

  3. something that really sets this new Star Trek apart from the oldies (though they are still goodies) is the total lack of drag. When I watch those old Star Treks I inevitably get the feeling that this or that scene is being drawn out way too much

    hey! Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Saw it – LOVED IT! Recommend everyone go see it.

Wasn’t really doing a whole lot of comparing of the new and old Trek – cause they are different.

But am really really lovin this new Trek – hope I get to see another movie soon!

Wasn’t it great? It seems that CP and I only make it to the movies about once a year or so. I’m so glad we went and saw this!

  5. ah, i had to wait months and months to see it. that’s cuz i refused to see it in german. so when i finally got to america last month, i saw it right away. and was blown away. it was as wonderful as people said it was.

then on the plane ride home, i saw it again, and could truly enjoy it. i burst into tears a couple times, it was so well done. and none of the humor would translate into the german, i am positive. in this way i am so glad i waited. splendid film!

    °lytha, mostly a TNG trekkie
ps you forgot the one after voyager, enterprise!
