Quick Take- Pony Shopping!

We’re slowly starting to look for a second horse as a companion for Casey.  Need to have a second horse before we get him moved some time in August.  And we’re looking for a couple de-budded wethers as well to assist with brush clean up.

So, if you’re within 50 miles of Portland, you’re welcome to suggest horses and goats to us!

Not sure if I want a project horse or an older, close-to-being-a-retiree the little kids can learn on.  We don’t want to spend a lot and I do have a soft spot for rescue- I need help type situations.   Our only real requirements is that the prospective horse load and stand for the farrier.  Beyond that, we can work on things.   Ideally, I’d like to keep the price under $1000.    I know!  I’m not wanting  spend much, but there are always horses who need good, loving homes!

As for goats, we feel the optimum number is 2.  Gotta keep the blackberries mowed down.  Not really looking for a milk goat as we dont use enough milk to justify it.

I won an award too from Aunt Krissy!  I’ll post about that later though!

  1. What size goats are you looking for? One of my co-workers raises Nigerian Dwarf goats and pygmy goats, they are absolutely ADORABLE! She sells quite a few as 4-H projects… I can get her in contact with you if you would like, she may also have some Boers. I know she mentioned she was getting out of those in favor of the pgymys.

Let me know, you have my email :o )

Oooh! Oooh! That would be awesome! I’ll email you in a few!

  2. Hi there!
Umm the ER Nurse that called the neighbor to rescue me, as my riderless horse ran by her property has waayyy to many goats…I could inquire should you wish. They have a pony too…she is coming in for hair Friday..will inquire!
I have a new mail..old one is out..
    kacylovingu@yahoo.com

Yes please! Email in a few!

  3. PS
A pony would not work for my mare if we got property.she is not deathly afraid of them..she’d like to madly stomp them..fear too!

LOL! Knew that would get me in trouble! Not a pony per say, we just want/need another horse! Casey must have an equine herd member! Otherwise he’s sad and naughty, alternately.

  4. How exciting!!!! I love little goatleys and have a special place in my heart for them. :)

And a buddy/pal for Casey??? Have fun horse shopping….
There is a lot out there right now with the words “price negotiable” in the ad, so maybe you will find exactly what you are looking for?

I hope so! If you hear of a great one in particular there, let me know, k? I’ve got a horsey person up there to look for me too!

The only issue is that I’m not 100% sure what it is I’m looking for. A broke, broke, broke kid horse/ retiree or a project pony? Dunno. Somebody help me figure it out please!

  5. I’m still waiting on my goats. it is taking a long time. I have the pen and stuff all ready to go. Just doing the waiting game.

How soon until you get them? Why the hold up?

  6. Oh how cool – ever consider a llama? I heard that they can great horse companions.

Glad things are slowly getting back to normal for you. Hey! Maybe a rescue? And old timer that needs a little rehab?

    Just a thought.

I’ve considered a llama, but CP says no because they spit and it’s stinky. And, they don’t eat brush like a goat does, which is important because we have a lot of blackberries on the property.

I’ve been thinking of a rescue or an old timer in good health. There are still people losing their jobs and not able to care for their horses. That’s also been a thought. I just seem to miss out on them. Got a line on a little Arab mare though who is older and needs a few groceries. So maybe…
