When we brought Moon home, I told myself I wouldn’t get attached. We’d just care for her the best we could, but we wouldn’t go to any heroic lengths. Her wound was awful then and it’s only minimally improved now.
Late last night, the other goats alerted me to something wrong. Moon was down and couldn’t get up. We brought her in the house and spent several hours getting her on her feet and attempting to eat. We gave her fluids Sub Q. And she improved a bit.
This morning, Moon is standing in the same place we left her in, downstairs in a dog crate we set up just for her. She’s just wobbly and not moving, not eating and not drinking. We could really use some prayers and jingles for her recovery or quick and painless passing.
Update #1: Moon has made some small strides forward today. She is standing now on her own and can turn a bit, albeit still very wobbly. I got some more fluids into her sub-q and orally, some grain and a bit of hay. Moon is more alert and aware than she was before, but we’ve still got quite a haul in front of us if she’s going to pull out of this. I will keep ya’ll posted as changes occur.
Update #2: Moon is eating! Dude and I managed to pump her full of Gatorade and Moon has been more active since. Now, someone has to hold her in order to medicate her and she’s back to being a shy little thing. She moves to the back of the dog crate when anybody approaches. If she’d just begin drinking on her own now!
