You have to visit the Horse Park in the winter when they have it decorated for the holidays. And when they have Bryerfest. And when they have the Derby celebration. And Rolex. And when they……. get the idea? I love the park. We used to go at least once a month. Just remember that Monday is the horses’ day off. The park is still open but the horses are not there.
It’s a 6 1/2 hour drive so once a month is probably pushing it for us. But, yes! I get the idea and I’m excited!
You’ll have to visit Stone Mountain and climb all the way to the top. (Or cheat and take the tram,) Chattanooga is fun too. They have a great aquarium. OK! I just assumed it was the name of a town, not an actual “mountain” (shall I start laughing now, or when I see it?)
Talking about this stuff ALMOST but not quite makes me think I **might** want to live somewhere other than Alaska. But today was clear blue skies and 70*. I rode in the daylight until 10:30 last night and plan to do the same again tonight!
Brat! You should stay up and get video of the dusk/dawn for me next month. That was always my favorite. It’s dusk for a couple minutes. And look! Now it’s dawn! I miss that! But, the sun is waking me here at 5am, so I still have a taste. No curtains on our bedrooms here. Nothing to see anything if they could crawl up 3 stories and look in anyways.
Laugh really hard when you see what they call a mountain. It’s a big granite rock in the middle of the flat land.
Maybe I should laugh now so I can be polite later when I see it?
I lived in Louisville and the park was less than an hour away. You must make a trip to ssee all the Thoroughbred farms too. Breeder’s Cup will be at Churchill in November. It would be worth the drive for that.
I may have to choose between the World Equestrian Games and the Breeder’s Cup this year. I bet you can guess what I’m going to pick in that case… But that’s just this year!
I will get a picture this year for my blog of *sunset* on Solstice. Last year I was in FL and I missed our Solstice bonfire.
I also miss the ‘bou down in Soldotna, if you happen to take a trip to the beach…
Curtains? What are curtains?
Yeah, I didn’t bother with them either until I discovered the neighbor’s kid was running into his house with his friends after I came home from work for one reason. Yeah, I inadvertently flashed them a few times before I figured out their game.
Alpharetta, GA is also a hotbed of all things horse. You might be able to see some of the American participants in WEG at some shows there.
We are going to be on the other side of Atlanta from Alpharetta. I’ve already heard about the Georgia Horse Park in Conyers (Covington?). I can’t wait! And Mrs Mom already hooked me up with a farrier!
Lots of distilleries in that area. My favorite is Maker’s Mark in Loretto. You can dip your own bottle in the wax.
Yes! TB blogged about them a bit ago. Their Bad Pants’ favorite bourbon, so that’s a visit sometime in the future, with TB as tour guide.
There’s a trail ride on the beach at Deep Creek this year but I’m gonna pass. The CTR will be in Wasilla this year. The ride camp is at the bottom of my driveway. We have several of our regular riders who are MIA so I will be *forced* to ride my horse alot as we have 53 miles of trail to maintain.
So, when I come visit Alaska again, can we go ride? Riding in Alaska would be… amazing for me! That would combine two of my favorite things. I never got to. It was too expensive at the time to take lessons up there even.
YES YES YES!!! Please come ride with me. I really don’t like riding alone (too many wild critters) and it’s like pulling teeth to get someone to ride with me.
I need the absolute awe and raw power of Alaskan wilderness, I think. I am homesick a bit today. Maybe next summer, when I’m not crazy busy with moving? I know Dude wants to come up badly and I have many friends in Anchorage to visit too.
I’m like TB, I don’t know what your talking about. This is the first time I have heard of it. Like the house in your other post. I hate to use the word cute, but that house is so cute! I want to live in it!
The picture is deceptive. It’s large, just a couple hundred square feet smaller than this monstrosity. But yes, very cute!
Check that news out!! It is kinda like ‘It Is Mean’t To Be!” In fact…It is mean’t to be! I love all the plans and the fact the games are there..you are so going to be lovin’ it all! (Save the humidity)
I will go look at mail after I read a bit…
About the New Farrier-
I found him through the EASYWALKER SHOES site for Oregon.
He is great at what he does…but….
I do not like him as a person….man he talked my bloody ear off…and about political crap..and I wanted to say..”good thing I don’t pay by the hour”..or..”good thing you must have had a cancellation after me!” So…I just had to endure the time..wayyy too long a time . I think, I am saying something about when i must be done next time.
Good farriers are hard to find. Maybe just tuning him out is a good idea?
