My Friends,
Do you use any record keeping software for your horses? If so, what do you use? What do you like about it? What do you dislike? How much does it cost?
If you don’t use record keeping software, how are you going about keeping your records? What are you tracking? What forms, if any are you using? Did you create them yourself or did you download them?
Please discuss!
Hey OS (btw I’ve got a box now for the blankets, shipping out this Friday when I get paid 🙂
Thanks! It’s much appreciated! We’re under a freeze advisory tonight, about a month early compared to last year and the yearly average records.
I use my blog to track it – by sorting into catagories. Info I track: shots, worming, (don’t bother with farrier since we now do it), vet visits, and when I was buying feed and wanted to monitor Big Guy’s weight etc… I tracked feed. I used to track hay purchases also esp. for winter. I also track lameness issues.
I think that using my blog to do all that would become too complex. I’d have to dig through the archives to come up with what it is I’m looking for, which could become time consuming.
I have always been a pencil and paper kinda gal. With one small twist- everything gets written down on a calendar and I save them to look back for reference. (Ask Dear Husband. It is a small obsession of mine…lol)
Too complicated for me. And, I can’t seem to keep my calendars hanging ON the wall, so I give up.
I’ve just never gotten into the idea of record keeping any other way. KISS seems the best theory for me 😉
xoxo
I keep calendars for my horses. And I have a binder full of pictures, veterinary receipts, etc. I have the same thing for my cats, dog, and bird, too. A binder full of records.
And if there was a fire? What then? I ask because I’ve been looking into some of the online programs, especially since my horse head count doubled in the last month.
The calendars I buy, I usually find at Michael’s, and you can put pictures on them. I just write on the date of what they had done, or any notes, and then write “due” for shots/worming or farrier or whatever, on the appropriate upcoming date.
I guess I’m just too old school, or don’t manage enough horses to have it on the computer.
I’m trying out one program. So far, I like that it’s really easy to track all my expenses (important when you’re rehabbing a starved horse as it is CYA here), and it lets me easily run a report as to how much is being spent per horse, how much I’m spending in general and to whom most of the money is going to. All important stuff when you repeatedly ask your husband to open his wallet and he wants to know why and what for this time. Or tries to pass off a “Didn’t we just do that?” Then I have a record I can pull up and say, “No, Honey, that was a year ago” or whatever. 🙂
lol!
by the way, have I ever mentioned that your blackberries on the top of the screen always make me hungry 🙂
Thanks. I never bothered changing the header after we moved from our farm in Oregon, aptly named “Blackberry Hill”, as 20 of our 22 acres was covered in blackberries.
I like Rendaivu, and it’s free. I use it privately. It’s meant to be more of a group barn thing, but works just as well for one horse. When I can remember to use it!
I’ve been trying Rendaivu, and for the most part, I like it. I just wish I could enter a feeding schedule, so I could easily see who is eating how much, especially with Sugar now in the mix. For the most part, it works though. Glad to hear a positive review!
How is it free? I checked out the app for iPhone and it’s $9.99
Rendaivu is free if you only use the desktop version.
