As you can see, there’s clearly nothing wrong with Sugar that simple FEEDING could have prevented. She’s really starting to feel good now too. Good enough that she’s starting to be a little pushy when it comes to love, feeding and going for a walk somewhere.
I’m going to de-worm her one more time as I’m still grossed out by the heavy load she was carrying. I want to make sure they’re all cleared out and she’s absorbing the most nutrients possible.
Not only can Sugar get up and down on her own, as you can see from the photos, but she’s quite happy to trot around a bit when on turn out.
My farrier checked her out and thought she might be a little Morgan, given her bone structure. Thinking about it a little, I think I agree. Whatever she is, she’s a cutie!
Additionally, as of this past weekend, Sugar officially became ours. Bad Pants made it official, she’s going to stay with us and no one else will have any say over her again. I won’t have to stress about what sort of home she may end up in, as she’s here to stay!
*I should also say that Sugar has no back teeth on her right side. No idea why, they’re just not there.
I mentioned on FB that she’s looking good but I didn’t ask about her future home. Glad that question was answered here, congrats on your new horse 🙂
Thanks! First, I doubled the number of horses I own in one week. Then, not being a mare person, I somehow tripled the number of mares I own in that same week! Something must be wrong with me!
Sugar is looking so good! I just want to hug her neck.
She would love it if you did!
YAY!!! About a mile from us is four starving horses. We’ve turned the family in (they are so thin Sugar makes them look fat) at this moment the sheriff still has done nothing about them!! GRRRRR
My next step is to call the state Vet. Something HAS got to be done!

I was just having this debate on Facebook, actually. I don’t know how it is in Colorado, but here in the South, resources including AC and the Sheriff are stretched pretty thin. Unless you happen to know the owners intimately, I’d hesitate to judge them too harshly. The economy sucks everywhere. Just because it may look like they have a fancy truck or a big fancy house doesn’t mean they aren’t financially hurting and barely holding their own heads above water. They could have gotten a foreclosure notice you might not know anything about. Is there a way you could help them out or take on even one of their horses? Or help them find help? Pride often stops men from asking for help when it’s needed. A donation of a round bale might be really appreciated. You never know!
As Gandhi once said, “Be the change you want to see in the world”. I think he meant that we should step in, instead of waiting for someone else to do it.
Wow! She sure has come along way under your care! Great job! Clearly good food and love makes a big difference. But we knew that already, right? 😉
Thanks! She’s out spending some time with Molly right now, her first time out with one of the big horses and without a stall wall to separate them. So far, so good!
Sugar is looking so great! Amazing what food can do (and love!) 🙂
Also good news about her knee letting her be at least mobile. Yeah!
Aw, these pics and your news about keeping her makes me happy!
Glad to be of service!
Wow, you are super fast today 🙂
Maybe I just miss you today and knew you left a comment? 🙂
She looks soooo much better. I’m glad to hear that she will have a home with you guys.
Thanks, Laura!
She looks SO good! You get an A+ in refeeding scrawny horses. 😉
Thanks! Getting her to eat beet pulp seemed to be the big test.
I just read the previous post about Sugar (https://oregonsunshine.wordpress.com/2011/10/04/its-been-a-while-2/) – and I am bowled over by how AMAZING she looks in these pictures! She was just skin and bones in those earlier pics. Wow… She has clearly found a good home with you. Can you keep her?
I will be keeping her. 🙂 She has a permanent home with us.
Sorry! I was so keen to reply, I had missed that last para!!!
LOL That’s alright! And welcome to my little space on the blogosphere!
😀
It’s nice on your blog. I think I’ll browse around a bit more.
She looks wonderful and very happy and content. I’m so glad she is yours officially.
